Az-Zubair ibn Al-Awwaam (May Allah be pleased with him) was also one of those given the glad tidings of Paradise during his lifetime and he too was a cousin of the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him. He embraced the religion of Islam shortly after Abu Bakr (May Allah be pleased with him) when he was just fifteen years old. Az-Zubair immigrated to Ethiopia and to Medina and he fought alongside the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him in all of the battles including the Battle of Uhud, the Battle of Al-Khandaq, the Battle of Hudaybiyyah, the Battle of Khaibar, the Conquest of Hunayn, the Conquest of Taif, as well as the Conquest of Egypt. And he was the first one who drew his sword for the cause of making the word of Allah supreme.
THE VIRTUES OF AZ-ZUBAIR IBN AL-AWWAAM(May Allah be pleased with him) In a hadith narrated upon the authority of Jaabir ibn Abd-Allah (May Allah be pleased with him) who said that the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said on the day of the Battle of the Confederates: "Who will gather news of the (enemy) people for us?" Az-Zubair said: "I will." Then he (the Messenger of Allah r) repeated: "Who will gather news of the (enemy) people for us?" Az-Zubair said: "I will." Then he (the Messenger of Allah r) repeated (a third time): "Who will gather news of the (enemy) people for us?" Az-Zubair said: "I will." Then he (the Messenger of Allah r) said: "Every Prophet has a Hawaari (disciple or special helper), my disciple is Az-Zubair." In another hadith also narrated upon the authority of Jaabir ibn Abd-Allah (May Allah be pleased with him) who said that the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said: "Every Prophet has a Hawaari (disciple or special helper) and my disciple is Az-Zubair ibn Al-Awwaam."
