Sa'ad Ibn Maalik (May Allah be pleased with him)

He was also known as Sa'd ibn Abee Waqqaas and he was one of the ten companions given the glad tidings of Paradise during their lifetimes. He was also one of the six companions that 'Umar ibn Al-Khattaab said that the Messenger of Allah was pleased with when he died.
Sa'd ibn Maalik fought alongside the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him in all of the battles including the Battle of Badr, the Battle of Uhud and the Battle of Al-Khandaq. And he fought very bravely in the Battle of Uhud. And he was the first one to spill blood in the cause of Allah as well as the first one to throw a spear in the cause of Allah.
THE VIRTUES OF SA'D IBN MAALIK(May Allah be pleased with him)
Sa'd ibn Maalik (May Allah be pleased with him) was of those whose du'a are answered by Allah. The people knew that about him and used to fear (that he would supplicate against them). In a hadith narrated upon the authority of Qais ibn Abee Haazim, upon Sa'd who said that the Messenger of Allah said:
"O Allah! Answer the du'a of Sa'd if he asks You."
And in another hadith, narrated upon the authority of 'Ali ibn Abee Taalib (May Allah be pleased with him) who said:
"The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him did not mention both of his parents for anyone except for Sa'd ibn Abee Waqqaas. He (the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him) said to him on the day of the Battle of Uhud: 'Shoot (an arrow), may my father and mother be taken as ransom for you.'"
In another hadith, narrated upon the authority of Abd-Allah ibn 'Aamir who said I heard Aisha say:
"The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him laid down on his bed one night after his arrival in Medina and said: 'I wish there was a pious person from amongst my companions who would keep watch for me during the night.' She (Aisha) then said: 'We were in that state when we heard the clanging noise of weapons (being drawn).' He (the Messenger of Allah r) then said: 'Who is it?' He (Sa'd ibn Abee Waqqaas) said: 'This is Sa'd ibn Abee Waqqaas.' The Messenger of
Allah peace be upon him said to him: 'What brings you here?' Thereupon he said: 'I feared (lest any harm should come to) the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him, so I came to serve as your sentinel.' The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him made du'a for him and then went to sleep."
And in another hadith, narrated upon the authority of Sa'eed ibn Musayyib who said that he heard Sa'd ibn Abee Waqqaas say:
"On the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet peace be upon him mentioned for me both of his
parents (i.e. saying: "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you.") "
